Academic Guidance Programme
The Academic Guidance Programme was initiated by OREPA to enhance the knowledge of A/L students who were eager to step into their future career paths. Polishing the brilliant minds through this program will definitely make them confident before sitting for the exam. According to the project overview, the following decisions were taken as a solution for the limited time we have to clarify their problems.
The first task was preparing and uploading the answer scripts for term test papers to the proposed E-learning portal. Discussion and review sessions for 30 past papers were arranged and 15 selected practical experiments based on Chemistry and Physics were done on a selected day in order to provide proper guidance on those practical experiments to the A/L students who were willing to participate.
Academic Guidance Programme 2017
For the year 2017, Project Academic Guidance was planned to start in mid-October and spanned untill May 2018 covering a large portion of the content in science streams. The project conducted by old Royalist undergraduates from university intake years 2017, 2016 and 2015 with batch 2017 taking the key role of active guidance process. This was to ensure that the syllabus and the knowledge of the undergraduates were compatible with the student requirement.
Academic Guidance 2018
The Academic Guidance project was revamped this year, with a new outlook that focuses on connecting with students remotely as well, to cater to the busy schedules of A/L students. The Advanced Level Examination is one of the most difficult examinations faced by school students. Numerous students fail to reach their highest potential at this examination, mainly due to a lack of motivation and adequate guidance. Also, a drop in the number of entrants to the University of Moratuwa from College had been noticed. The student guidance program was aimed at addressing all these issues and providing students the necessary platform to reach their fullest potential at the examination. The objectives of this project were, Increase the number of entrants to Engineering Faculties compared to the previous year. Conduct continuous academic support sessions that will be beneficial for school students. Witness improvement in the A/L results in the Physical Science stream.
A total of 50 students have been selected for the program this year based on their performance at the term end examinations. These students took part in the program, and each of them was allocated a mentor for coordinating with and guiding them. 25 mentors were enrolled for the program from the OREPA undergraduate body, and a session was held at the university premises, where they were briefed about the nature of the project, their responsibilities, and the students they were going to be in charge of. The session had a complete turn-up of all mentors and ended successfully marking the official beginning of the project. The project spanned over a period of six to eight months.
